Skin Game by Jim Butcher

Skin Game by Jim Butcher

19486421Book Description:  Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard, is about to have a very bad day…

Because as Winter Knight to the Queen of Air and Darkness, Harry never knows what the scheming Mab might want him to do. Usually, it’s something awful.
He doesn’t know the half of it…

Mab has just traded Harry’s skills to pay off one of her debts. And now he must help a group of supernatural villains—led by one of Harry’s most dreaded and despised enemies, Nicodemus Archleone—to break into the highest-security vault in town, so that they can then access the highest-security vault in the Nevernever.

It’s a smash and grab job to recover the literal Holy Grail from the vaults of the greatest treasure hoard in the supernatural world—which belongs to the one and only Hades, Lord of the freaking Underworld and generally unpleasant character. Worse, Dresden suspects that there is another game afoot that no one is talking about. And he’s dead certain that Nicodemus has no intention of allowing any of his crew to survive the experience. Especially Harry.

Dresden’s always been tricky, but he’s going to have to up his backstabbing game to survive this mess—assuming his own allies don’t end up killing him before his enemies get the chance…

My Review:  I love the Dresden Files.  I adore them.  This book did not disappoint.  In fact I raced through this book and then turned right around and listened to the audio book.  That’s how much I love these books.  I usually don’t review books by authors that I love this much but I think I’m still objective with this series.  I keep waiting for one of these books to be poorly written.  Let’s be honest, this is book fifteen, I’m starting to think that Jim Butcher is an actual wizard.   He just keeps writing fantastic books.

This book is clever and action packed just like the books before it.  So when you get to a certain point and you realize that you only have a certain number of pages left don’t panic.  Jim Butcher pulls it out in true Dresden Files fashion.

I think that it’s only fair that I talk about the audio book as well.  James Marsters is beloved as the narrator of this series for a reason.  He is Harry Dresden.  He can do the voice that fans of this series have in their heads when they read the books.  If you’re already a fan and haven’t listened to the audio books then you’re missing out.  He really is that good.

If you’re not a fan of the series yet you can start now.  You will most likely want to start at the beginning but you could just as easily start with this one.  This book is an awesome adventure even if you don’t know anything about the series.  There’s a Wiki that could possibly help you too but you’re probably better off finding a friend that can answer your questions.

So what did we learn?  Skin Game is so fantastic that you should read it now and that I should join a Goodreads support group for people with a Dresden Files addiction.
