Book Blurb:

An Exiled Princess.
An Ancient Tribe.
A Dangerous Stranger with Unknown Loyalties.

Dinah, the former Princess of Wonderland Palace, has been chased into the wilds of Wonderland after the brutal murder of her brother and the ruin of her impending crown. Now, as her half-sister Vittiore sits on the throne beside her Father, the brutal King of Hearts, Dinah finds herself alone in the forbidding Twisted Wood with only Morte, a homicidal beast, for company.

Hunted by the King and his army of Cards, Dinah struggles to evade those who long for her head, including Cheshire, the King’s clever advisor, who is slowly tightening his grasp around her. Spurred on by her rising terror, the former Princess finds herself at the center of a web of conspiracy reaching far beyond the Palace and deep into the mysterious Yurkei mountain tribes.
Even with the balance of an entire Kingdom at stake, Dinah knows something that her allies and enemies do not: that the most dangerous conflict of all has already begun as she battles the enticing rage that beckons her ever closer as love slips further from her grasp.

The second book in the bestselling and award-winning Queen of Hearts Saga, The Wonder takes readers back to the most wondrous and curious places in Wonderland, and continues this darkly addictive tale featuring one of the most infamous villains of all time.

But be warned…not every fairy tale has a happy ending.
This is the story of a princess who became a villain.

My Review:

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Colleen Oakes has done it again!  She has captured my attention full force and created another wonderful story in the revealing tale of how the Queen of Hearts came to be.  If it is possible this book is better then the first.

Like in the first book so much happens to Dinah and some unbelievable secrets get revealed.  When we first encounter Dinah this time around she is exactly where she was when we left her in book one, on the run.  While on the run she meets a surprising ally as she travels to the Yurkei Mountains, and wait until you meet them! And Dinah must learn to defend herself and survive.

As I said more is revealed in this tale, but to get into it would reveal a story this is definitely worth the read.  You will be surprised as you learn more about Cheshire who I admit in the beginning made my skin crawl.

Once I started I couldn’t put it down.  There is still one more book in the series and I wish I could pick it up right now!Jessica

Beach Reads 2014

We’re late with our beach reads list this year.  We know.  It’s past the fourth of July and we’re just now getting to it.  On the up side we had more time to read.  We each contributed five titles to keep you entertained during your time at the beach this summer.   These books will also help you forget that you’re even at a beach if you’re like me and don’t actually care for the beach but your friends have dragged you along anyway.  You can cheer yourself up with one of these feel good books.  Yes, even Skin Game.  Harry always pulls it out at the end and this end has a very touching scene.   And everyone take a deep breath- there isn’t a single vampire in any of these books.  Not one.  I know what you’re thinking and no, Harry’s brother isn’t in Skin Game.

by Colleen Oakes

Summary:

Blossoming Love. A Father’s Betrayal. A Kingdom with a Black Secret.

As Princess of Wonderland Palace and the future Queen of Hearts, Dinah’s days are an endless monotony of tea, tarts, and a stream of vicious humiliations at the hands of her father, the King of Hearts. The only highlight of her days is visiting Wardley, her childhood best friend, the future Knave of Hearts — and the love of her life.

When an enchanting stranger arrives at the Palace, Dinah watches as everything she’s ever wanted threatens to crumble. As her coronation date approaches, a series of suspicious and bloody events suggests that something sinister stirs in the whimsical halls of Wonderland. It’s up to Dinah to unravel the mysteries that lurk both inside and under the Palace before she loses her own head to a clever and faceless foe.

Part epic fantasy, part twisted fairy tale, this dazzling saga will have readers shivering as Dinah’s furious nature sweeps Wonderland up in the maelstrom of her wrath. Familiar characters such as Cheshire, the White Rabbit, and the Mad Hatter make their appearance, enchanting readers with this new, dark take on Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

But be warned…not every fairytale has a happy ending.

This is the story of a princess who became a villain.

My Review:

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest and fair review.

Let me tell you how much I loved this book! Wonderland from what we would consider the villains point of view, but why was she the villain.  Dinah is a teenage girl craving her fathers love, a man who is abusive to her both mentally and physically.  Her Mother has died and her brother, the Mad Hatter, doesn’t always remember who she is.

I was drawn into this wonderland world.  I felt for Dinah so much. She has a big heart and her character was wonderfully written.  She knows love and hope and at this tender age feels so much.  Who is truly with her and who is against her I think may surprise us.

Your imagination can run wild as you are reading.  Colleen Oakes has done an amazing job of taking characters that we all know and love and transforming them in the perfect way.  If you want to know who the white rabbit is or the Cheshire cat is in this wonderful tale then you can not miss this book!

This is the first book in a new series by Colleen Oakes and I can not wait for the next installment.

Alice in Wonderland A Novel

Alice in WonderlandAlice in Wonderland

by Elle Lothlorien

Amazon

Summary:

When high school math teacher Alice Faye Dahl attends a Texas Hold’Em home poker tournament, she doesn’t know a royal flush from a toilet flush. Four months and dozens of “wins” later, she’s one of the Final Nine–the championship table at the International Poker Tour in Surfer’s Paradise, Australia–and way out of her depth. When a fluke shark attack throws her and sports reporter Lapin “Rabbit” Montgomery together, it seems to challenge the saying “lucky at cards, unlucky at love.” A veteran of the poker circuit (and gorgeous besides), Rabbit offers to help her go all the way to win the multi-million dollar prize, a deal she can’t refuse. In this modern-day twist on Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” Alice discovers much too late that when it comes to poker (and love), sometimes you win, sometimes you lose–and sometimes it’s both.

Australia, love, card sharks, belly-aching laughs, real sharks, poker, Wonderland, and a touch of intrigue–there’s just no telling what you’ll find down the rabbit hole…

My Review:

This is another wonderful book by Elle.  I love how she takes a classic fairy tale and turns it into something so uniquely hers.

I was hooked right from the beginning.  “I have a totally unhealthy and unrealistic fear of being eaten by a great white shark.  This is because I belong to a very specific demographic called American Child Whose Parents Made the Ill-Advised Decision To Allow Her To Watch the Movie Jaws At a Sleepover During Her Formative Years.”  I mean how can you not love that!

The characters are strong.  Alice and Lapin (Rabbit) are a perfect match.  I do wish he had been a little more honest with her from the beginning, but then were would the story be.  Then there is the Queen of Hearts.  I mean this woman is everything you think of when you think mean and vengeful.

As this complicated story of twists and turns unfolds you can’t help but love this story.  Everything happens for a reason and there is a purpose behind it all.  This is a great read and an wonderful way to start off the New Year!
