Lucy Stone was born on this day in 1818-(-1893). She was an American suffragist, abolitionist and orator. She helped to establish the Woman’s National Loyal League which helped in passing the Thirteenth Amendment. She then went on to help establish the American Woman Suffrage Association. She also wrote about woman’s rights in the weekly periodical Woman’s Journal which she founded. Lucy Stone was also the first woman in Massachusetts to earn a college degree.
