My Review:

Let me just say when I started out I only intended to review The Selection, but when I got to the end I just couldn’t control myself and wanted to know what happened.  This series is at it’s core a love story.  So if you are looking for a full dystopian future and all that comes with that, this is not your book.  Think the bachelor with a royal flair and rebel trouble mixed in. That being said I picked up the first book on Sunday night and by mid day on Wednesday I was finished with the third.  Did I love it, absolutely.  Sorry Lynn this is NOT the series for you as we have discussed over the last few days (chuckle to myself).

Now what is the Selection?  The selection is a a competition that starts when the Prince comes of age.  All eligible woman in the country are sent a letter with an application.  They can choose not to enter, but if they do enter and they are chosen there family is sent money for every week they are there and there is the possibility that the Prince could pick them to be his future Queen. Once everyone enters 34 woman are chosen.  One from each province of the country.  Those woman enter the castle and slowly the Prince starts eliminating woman he feels are not a match for him (Like I said think the Bachelor).

Enter American Singer.  She doesn’t want to enter, but her boyfriend decides that he may not be good enough for her and asks her to so he can feel better about himself.  Thinking she will never be picked as one of the 34 woman she agrees.  Of course we all know she is picked.

Right from the start American and Prince Maxon have a interesting meeting.  She yells at him and calls him stuck up and tells him she doesn’t want to even be there. Ah the beginnings of a beautiful friendship.  In exchange for letting her stay so she can get over her past love and move on with her life she will help the Prince with the woman. This however leads to her developing feeling for him and him loving her from the very beginning.  Complication added.  Aspen the man she is trying to escape is now a palace guard.

Okay so like I said a love story.  Now mix in that the country is unhappy with the current raining King.  The Northern Rebels attack the palace and steal things, the Southern Rebels attack the palace and kill.  American does not know how to behave like a princess and doesn’t now when to keep her mouth shut.  She unwittingly puts herself out there and starts into motion the very thing the Northern Rebels want.  An end to the Caste system (each person is assigned a number based on upbringing that number determines your place in society and how your family lives.  The higher the number the wealthier you are).  She becomes loved by the people and hated by the King.

There are plenty of ups and downs.  Prince Maxon and American fight a lot and neither one wants to cave in easily.  There are things going on with every one and everyone may not be who they seem.  The Northern Rebels form an alliance with America and Maxon’s help and everything has a consequence.

If you are looking for a good love story then you can’t go wrong with this series.  I mean look at me three books in three days.  I am sure you know what that means.  (Me gushing) LOVE THIS SERIES!!  Jessica
